About Us

Dr Dina Simmons is an orthopaedic surgeon who works almost exclusively with children. She qualified from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2002 and completed her internship and community service years in Bloemfontein and Sebokeng hospitals respectively. She rejoined the Wits circuit as a medical officer. After a short sojourn to the UK, where she worked as a medical officer, she returned again to her alma mater and started her orthopaedic training in earnest.

Dr Simmons completed her specialist exams in 2010. She was lucky enough to start a local fellowship in paediatric orthopaedics at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic hospital under Prof A Robertson, after which she secured a permanent post in that unit where she still works full time. She assisted to establish the multidisciplinary CP clinic at the hospital, which has now been running for 12 years. She is involved with running the clinics, patient care and surgery as well as coordinating undergraduate teaching and training registrars.

Dr Simmons is a married mom of three children. She is a founding EXCO member of SA_ChilD (Southern African Academy of Childhood Disability) and SAFOSS (South African Female Orthopaedic Surgeons Society). She is also a member of SAPOS (South African Society of Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeons). She believes her experiences as a parent allow her to relate easily to the parents in her practice.

Our Practice

Dr Simmons runs a limited private practice. This allows her the freedom to confine her practice exclusively to children. Her passion is providing a service to children, which acknowledges that they are not merely little adults and simultaneously acknowledging that parents are a major part of the management of their children.

The practice manages a very wide range of paediatric orthopaedic conditions, which include congenital deformities, developmental conditions and trauma.

The practice aims to create an environment of information, respect and empowerment for both children and their parents.
